Walgreens and CVS specials this week

A few things look worthwhile at our neighborhood drug stores this week.

Walgreen's has a dozen large eggs @ .99, canned black olives or jarred green olives for .99 (with the in-store ad coupon). A two pound bottle of honey is 3.99 (with the in-store ad coupon). When honey is on sale like this, I try to stock up. Hefty zip storage bags are buy one get one free (bogof) at $3.29. Scotch tape is also bogof, so you might want to stock up for Christmas. Right guard deodorant is bogof and there's a good coupon in Sunday's News Herald ($1.50 off two). I've been saving those Right Guard coupons for a while so I'm stocking up. I love stocking up on items that don't go bad. Seriously, I have twenty tubes of toothpaste. It's an obsession.

Speaking of which, CVS has Crest Clinical toothpaste for 99 cents after the ($2.50 extra buck* or x-bk). It's normally $3.49. I will use my manufacturer's coupons on Crest; if you don't have any, you can sign up for printable coupons online at places like and There aren't any in this week's paper.

Canned black olives are .99 at CVS. Right guard is bogof here too. Gillette fusion razors are $4.99 after x bks, and I will print a $4 coupon, making it .99. I've been collecting them this way for a couple of months. They only allow you one a week. Head and Shoulder's is $2.99 after the x bk and there's a dollar off coupon in today's paper. A new product, Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets, is $3.99 after the x bk and there's a $3 coupon in the paper today. For the dry-eyed among us, Blink tears are free after x bks (a savings of $7.99). Last but not least, Planter's cashews are $3, which brings me to an easy recipe idea, cashew chicken. Recipe follows. There are more elaborate ways to fix this, but this is easy.

2 c. diced chicken
1 1/4 c. chicken broth
2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. cashews
3 green onions, diced

Brown chicken, set aside. Mix broth, soy sauce, cornstarch, and water. Cook until clear and thick. Add chicken, cashews, and onions. Warm. Serve over rice.

[*About extra bucks, get a CVS store card and when you buy certain items you get a coupon back that you can use on your next order. I check out with all my x-bk items, let the register spit out my x bks, then purchase my non-x-bk items using those and whatever coupons I have. Remember you can always use your manufacturer's coupons for a double-hit (because extra bucks are a CVS coupon).]

  1. I am going to make that cashew chicken..thanks for the recipe.

  2. I am so happy to see you sharing one of your passions with the world!
