Wednesday's Grocery Specials

Hey sports fans, time again to see what the big two (Winn Dixie and Publix) are offering us this week. I'm going to run through each and soon, when I have time, I'll offer menu ideas.

If you've been clipping your Sunday paper coupons, you should have a buy-one-get-one-free on Oral B toothbrushes. Winn Dixie has them bogof also, which means with the coupon, you will get four free toothbrushes.

Here's a word of advice about using coupons and going through the check-out line. I look at each cashier and try to figure out who is the least competent. I avoid middle-aged female cashiers because they know the grocery game and won't cut you any slack. Clueless teenage girls and almost all young men don't really care if your coupons are expired or you are trying to use the coupon on an 8 oz. box rather than a 32 oz. box. Young men who look bookish and nerdy are in the same category as older women--this is their world and if you try to slide an expired coupon by them they'll treat you like you just killed the last space alien on planet earth. First choice, go for the young jock. Second choice, clueless thin teenage girl. Heavy lonely girl plays by the rules too.

Gosh, I feel like a bad person because of that last paragraph.

Winn Dixie (bogof = buy-one-get-one-free)
seedless green grapes, .99 lb.
broccoli, .88 each (This is a great week to make broccoli casserole, broccoli salad, stir-fried broccoli, etc.)
onions $2.50, 3 lbs. (usually at least $3.29)
Pompeian extra virgin olive oil, bogof, 32 oz. $11.99
Arnold bread and bagels, bogof (makes it $2 each pkg.)
Juicy juice, bogof (makes it $2 each)
Solo cups and plates are bogof too

Publix
Tostitos, bogof (save up to $4.99)
Plums .99 lb.
New England Coffee, bogof
Luzianne tea bags, bogof
Barilla pasta, bogof
Thomas bagels, bogof (make it $2 each pkg.)
Planter's peanuts, bogof
Hefty drawstring tall kitchen bags, bogof

Stock up on items that have a long shelf life whenever you can. Try not to run out of things like trash bags, tea bags, pantry items. If you run out then you are at the mercy of the non-sale prices.

Happy Hunting!

  1. I have never laughed so hard at your description of the cashiers.
